|Salary||£65000 - £75000 per annum|
|Job Published||about 2 years ago|
|Who to Contact||Lucy Greenwood|
Did you know Mick Jagger trained as an accountant?
Probably not – because the general perception of an accountant is less than exciting. Boring – some would say. You and I know this to be untrue. If you find the right firm then the job can be challenging, exciting and rewarding.
This is the right firm.
The partners here know how to look after their top staff and genuinely value technical ability. They have a track record of developing professionals who want to advance, as they feel it’s fundamental to encourage ambition.
The tax partners sit with the tax team (of around 30 people) in an open-plan office. In fact, the firm has just acquired more office space – doubling their current space (it’s a very exciting time to join.) The team come from a range of backgrounds from the Big 4 to leading independent firms. The mixture offers a diverse range of expertise in the team. This highlights one of the best things about this firm: people are considered on their expertise and attitude. It is not a box-ticking application process, where you have to have worked at X for Y years.
Why is this firm doing significantly better than the majority of its competitors?
A few years ago, this firm made a plan to become an advisory focused offering. The team developed their skills – took on new expertise, and now offer the strongest corporate tax advisory services in the area.
What does the role involve?
You will manager a client portfolio involving entrepreneurial companies, OMB’s, middle-market clients with turnovers up to several hundred million and well-known larger companies. The industries include the growing tech industry, travel industry and engineering. This role is advisory focused, for example you shall be involved with; transaction tax, raising finance and group reorganisations.
The corporate tax employees here take pride in their ability to consult with their clients in a way that demonstrates a holistic approach to their tax needs, identifying and working together with new issues as they arise.
What will this mean for your career?
The managing director said to me, “my priority is to encourage development throughout the office.”
The role is designed to take you to director and onwards. Someone with leadership potential will do very well at this firm.
Do not apply if you don’t enjoy advisory. Do not apply if you’re a ‘steady eddy’. You need to have motivation, advisory experience and leadership potential.
