We have a unique opportunity with a top tier firm that provides both, exceptional professional exposure and the prospect to be at the vanguard of an expanding tax team.
The partner we are working with on this role has recently joined the firm and has been brought in specifically to grow the public sector side of the business. This is a field in which she has exemplary experience, having worked for almost three decades within the Big Four, dealing with clients such as the NHS, local government, and social housing providers. The firm already has a very strong client base that has been built on the exceptional technical skill of the existing tax team. As a result, the team has experienced growth and are now looking to hire to increase the firm’s capacity. This will mean that the firm can continue to win similar complex and interesting work that they currently do.
Culturally the team resembles those seen back in the heyday of the Big Four. That is to say the team are ambitious to grow and succeed together. The internal politics and elbowing required to progress in the big four is not a factor here. You will be supported in all aspects of the role by the partner director and the wider team around you. This supportive culture is further fostered by the fact that the entire team sit together in the same office space.
You will be provided with a portfolio of clients, to whom you will provide both advisory and compliance support. This will include the review and preparation of VAT returns, review of VAT processes and controls, and the acting as an advisor on VAT implications associated with new delivery models, complex procurement arrangements and high value investment programmes.
However the truly unique aspect of this role is the amount of business development that you will be exposed to at manager level. You will attend professional events, conduct presentations and produce articles to be presented in the firms advertising literature. You will also have a lot of autonomy in the delivery of the role; having complete control over the business development activities you undertake. The firm also have a specialist business development team, who are there to support you in the implementation of this. This kind of professional exposure is only really seen in SM positions and above in many other firms. Along with extensive business development you will also mentor junior members of staff as well as delegate and a review their work.
The partner wishes the team to double in size over the next few years. Joining the team now means that your promotion prospects are greatly increased. You will progress as the team does. The partner does not believe in prescribed promotion timetables, but rather progressing upon the achievements of set targets, this means your path to promotion can be accelerated.
