Job description

Okay, so maybe Britain does not need you in the same way that Lord Kitchener was summoning the young men of Britain to enlist to join the war effort in 1914. However, our economy does need you. A career in R&D will allow you to facilitate innovation within companies in the UK and lead the UK into its next chapter.

This team in Manchester are looking for people from a whole host of backgrounds to enrich their team.

So why should you join this firm and this team?

Firstly, they are an international firm with a vastly successful tax team that rivals that of the Big 4.

You will have gain exposure to a diverse client base which can range from small entrepreneurial firms and start-ups to the FTSE. The diversity of their clients also extend to the sectors in which they operate varying from the engineering to food and beverage.

This firm are very selective in the professionals they hire which means that if you were to take a position here, you would be working with the crème de la crème of R&D circles. You would have the best people mentoring and guiding through the nuances of R&D. For example, the head of innovation, has over fifteen years of experience in tax and proactively seeks out business development opportunities – all of which you can learn from.  At the more junior levels, you will be able to bounce ideas off of similarly focused and bright professionals.

This team are meticulous about the work they produce. However, the senior members of staff understand that you have a life too! They know that you need to have that downtime at the end of the day and during your weekends to ensure you’re at your most productive during the working week – when your productivity really matters!

Finally, their rate of growth means that your promotion is solely dependent on your capabilities. You will not be expected to sit around, stagnating at in a position, while you wait in a queue for that next promotion. The partners here actively encourage their professionals to take charge of their own careers. They want you to strive to prove that you are capable of that next promotion and they want to give it to you!

So… what will you be doing?

A main part of your role will be visiting client’s premises to learn about their activities and identify which are eligible under HMRC guidelines for funding from the government. This might require travelling across the UK as your clients can be based anywhere. If it’s a large project, you may even need to liaise with professionals located within the firms offices situated in other areas of the UK. You will need to answer any queries that your client or HMRC may have regarding your work. You will have the opportunity to expose yourself to business development by actively assisting from senior members of the team and learning what they do. Finally, you will use all the information you have gathered to write a technical report to submit to HMRC. Once everything has been concluded, you will be able to call your client to give them the good news that they will be receiving funding from the government which will enable them to continue their work. In others words, happy clients every time!
