Job Description

You enter the fun fair and take your seat on your first ride. The tax conveyor belt begins to move.  It trundles you round the corner and you enthusiastically make a start on all the computations. The conveyor belt takes you a little further round the track and you get your tax qualification. The excitement builds within you as you wait to see what lies around the next corner. However, as you turn the corner, disappointment sets in. You see a straight track with none of the bumps or loops that you were promised, just the same old work with no challenge and no development. You then notice the conveyor belt slowing and finally grinding to a halt as you join the queue of people sitting and waiting for promotion.

You know you are capable of more. You’ve been building up your skills and want the opportunity to flex your technical muscles with more challenging work and to get stuck in with meeting clients. Yet your seat has not moved.

Are you going to stay sitting there or are you going to get up, choose a new ride and move your career forward?

This team are looking for tomorrows managers. They want someone with flair, confidence and skill for them to build into key members of their tax team.

From the get go you will be responsible for exciting and varied work. You will be providing a bespoke service advising high net worth individuals on a variety of matters. As one senior said, there is no such thing as a typical day within the team. Each client assignment is different and will pose different challenges.

Here the partners will do everything they can to ensure your professional development which is why they consider early exposure to advisory assignments a core factor in the development of their seniors. In a recent project, one senior was working on a tax advisory report regarding an offshore employee benefit trusts and an offshore partnership. He was involved from the very beginning with drafting the reports, meeting clients and delivering advice.

Additionally, you will be able to broaden your development. The team covers a lot of ground, far beyond the scope of ordinary corporate tax teams and each senior member of the team has specialised in a particular area which will ensure you are given the best mentoring.

If the type of work and standards within the team aren’t enough to sway you to press the apply button then perhaps the prospects will. The rates of promotion within the team are pretty impressive – one team member has been promoted every year for three years. The reasons behind this are threefold. Firstly, the team is growing rapidly which is creating new positions at all levels in the team. Secondly, due to the amount of complex work they have and are winning, they can give the junior members of the team more complex work which in turn means those individuals are ready for the next step sooner than their peers in a lot of  other firms.

So… what do you need to qualify for this ride?

Unlike conventional fairs, you won’t have to stand in front of a painted board to check you meet the minimum height requirement. However there are other criteria. You will have a couple of years’ experience in corporate tax and ideally have a qualification, such as the ATT or CTA, behind you. You’ll also need to be confident and well presented – this is a client facing role and so the team need to be reassured that you will be able to represent the firm well when talking to clients. Finally, you’ll need to show passion for what you do and enthusiasm about the role.

Ready to ride? Hit the apply button now. Alternatively, give me a call on 02074644241 and we can discuss the role further.
